Russian chess player Daniil Dubov was given a forfeit defeat in the game of the seventh round of the supertournament in the Dutch Wijk aan Zee due to his refusal to play in a mask. This was reported on Saturday, January 22, by the press service of the tournament.
“Due to the coronavirus infection of a person in his immediate environment, the tournament organizers, after consultation with the chief arbiter, asked Dubov to play in a mask to protect his opponent Anish Giri,” the statement says.
The press service added that Dubov did not show up for the game, in connection with which he was counted forfeit defeat. At the same time, the Russian indicated that he fundamentally refuses to play in a mask.
At the same time, Dubov’s rapid test for coronavirus gave a negative result. The result of the PCR test is currently awaiting.
