Russian biathlete Anton Babikov told the Sport-Express newspaper that he would like to change in the team, and called the problem that, in his opinion, exists in the team today.
According to the athlete, he lacks friendly communication in the team, but he does not know how to change this.
“There is no friendship. To sit together and discuss. I don’t think it’s because of the pandemic. It so happened. Someone needs to take the burden of responsibility. This is missing. How to change it… I’m not the captain of the team. I am the sixth number of the team,” Babikov said after finishing the mass start in Antholz.
According to the results of the competition, which took place on January 22 as part of the seventh stage of the World Cup, Babikov took tenth place. His compatriot Eduard Latypov, after the first shooting, was in the group of leaders, but at the second firing line he made four misses at once and dropped out of the fight. As a result, the victory was won by the German biathlete Benedikt Doll.
On January 20, Anton Babikov won the individual race at the pre-Olympic stage of the Cup. The athlete covered the distance in 49 minutes 46.8 seconds without a single miss. This victory was the second for Babikov at the stages of the World Cup in his career, before that he won in the 2016/17 season.
On January 17, President of the Russian Biathlon Union Viktor Maigurov announced the composition of the national team for the Olympic Games in Beijing. Babikov was included in the Russian national team as a substitute.
