Incident in London
World War song against Tuchel? England fans are probably singing forbidden lines
Shortly before Thomas Tuchel took over as England coach, fans of the “Three Lions” apparently sang the banned song “Ten German Bombers”. You face severe consequences.
It was actually a carefree Sunday at Wembley Stadium. The English national soccer team won 5-0 against Ireland in the Nations League. And was promoted to League A. But after the game there was said to be an unpleasant incident.
According to British media reports, English fans sang a banned World War II song at Wembley Park subway station. “Ten German bombers were in the air,” it says. “And the English Royal Air Force shot one down.” UEFA and the English Football Association (FA) had long since banned the singing of these lines. Nevertheless, incidents like these happen again and again.
Due to the history of the song, the associations had also announced harsh consequences if fans sang the banned lines during a football game. “We would classify it as an ultra-nationalist song,” Telegraph Sport quoted Uefa’s anti-discrimination monitoring system as saying.
Some fans don’t want a German England coach
It is believed that this time the song was directed at German coach Thomas Tuchel. The 51-year-old will take over England’s national football team from January 1, 2025 – as the first German. Previously, Sven-Göran Eriksson from Sweden and Fabio Capello from Italy coached the “Three Lions” as non-English coaches.
Tuchel’s introduction had already sparked a debate in England. Some experts and fans celebrated the decision because the German is considered a tactical genius and, above all, could further develop the young talents of the English team. Others see his nationality as a problem.
Some fans accused those responsible of neglecting English coaches. Some of them probably wanted to express their displeasure with the song. At least that is the most plausible reason why England supporters sing a hate song against Germans at a game against Ireland.
