The Libertadores final will have Argentine referees: Tello will be the main judge

The Argentine referee Facundo Tello will direct the final of the Libertadores Cup between Atlético Mineiro and Botafogoas reported by Conmebol.

The meeting will take place on Saturday, November 30 at 5 p.m. at the Monumental Stadium from River Plate.

The refereeing shortlist is completed by the Argentines Ezequiel Brailovsky (assistant 1), Gabriel Chade (assistant 2), Yael Falcón (4th referee), Cristian Navarro (5th referee), Mauro Vigliano (VAR) and Hernán Mastrangelo (AVAR).

Ecuadorians Christian Lescano and Carlos Orbe will be in charge of AVAR 1 and 2 respectively.

Tello has a history in international cups, where he already directed the first leg of the Recopa Sudamericana in 2022 between Palmeiras and Athletico Paranaense in Curitiba, Brazil, where the teams tied 2-2.

On the other hand, in 2024 he was in charge of dispensing justice in the return match between Fluminense and Liga Deportiva Universitaria de Quito, which was a 2-0 victory for “Flu” and he was crowned champion, along with his people, in the Maracana stadium.

Locally, he also directed important definitions such as the final of the Primera B Nacional in the 2017/18 tournament, the Diego Armando Maradona Cup in 2020 and the Champions Trophy in 2022 and 2023.

Herrera and Tello were nominated for “Best Referee in the World” by the IFFHS.

Argentine referees Darío Herrera and Tello were nominated by the International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS) for the “Best Referee in the World” award.

Along with Herrera and Tello, three South American referees were also appointed: Rafael Claus and Wilton Sampaio, from Brazil, and Andrés Matonte from Uruguay. While for the rest of Latin America there are Arturo Ramos from Mexico and Iván Barton from El Salvador.

The award for Best Referee in the World will be awarded in two months, in January, according to the federation itself. The last to win this distinction was the Polish Szymon Marciniak, who directed the final of the Qatar 2022 World Cup between Argentina and France.
