Amateur football and volunteering were the big winners at the first real friendly weekend of the year. The OÖN local inspection on the squares showed: In the clubs, reason plays the one-two with the joy of the game. Thanks to the numerous helping hands in clearing the space, the heavy snowfall did not become an obstacle, nor did the Corona regulations, which were too often unrealistic.

“So that no one gets the wrong idea: Nobody has a problem if the pandemic is not allowed to play at all. But if politicians give permission, then the specifications should also be understandable,” says Upper Austria’s Football Association President Gerhard Götschhofer.

The second major insight was that in sport you have to be louder than usual in order to make yourself heard. As already reported on Saturday, after the loud protests, at least two smaller stones were cleared out of the way.

The coaches and supervisors are allowed to stand with their teams again without burdening the contingent of the 25-person rule. The same applies to the referees.

The substitutes, on the other hand, were usually far away from the rest during their warm-up exercises at the weekend. Either separated by a barrier in an adjacent field – or in the dressing room. After an injury during the game between Donau Linz and St. Magdalena, it took around ten minutes for a substitute from St. Magdalena to come out of the dressing room to replace an injured team-mate.

“I really appeal to politicians to exercise common sense. 2G is mandatory for all of us. We also send players to extra tests during the week. There are also always private circumstances that also require us to take extra care of each other,” says St. Magdalena’s sports director Gerold Sturm.

Also in Bad Wimsbach was played without any problems. The snow shovels were unpacked again for the delimited substitute players in order to be able to move properly on the side field. Did the barriers that separate those players who train together during the week anyway protect against possible infections? Perhaps this will be considered when the next amendment to the Corona Ordinance is made.
