Expectation for the meeting between Orsi and Lacalle Pou

The elected president, Yamandu Orsiand the president of the Republic, Luis Lacalle Pouwill meet in the next few hours to begin the transition of power.

Initially, Orsi’s team stipulated that the meeting could take place on Tuesday. But this Monday, the president-elect considered that it would be appropriate to do so between Tuesday and Wednesday. For his part, the current president convened a council of ministers for tomorrow, a sign of the preparations for this transfer of command, in addition to what will be an evaluation of the defeat.

Lacalle Pou was the first leader to recognize the victory of the Broad Front, which won by 49.80% of the votes over his former Secretary of the Presidency and friend, Alvaro Delgado (45.84%). He did so by telephone minutes after the pollsters’ quick counts showed an irreversible trend in favor of the former mayor of Cannelloni.

The president had already given signals when voting mid-morning on Sunday that he expected a quick and orderly transition, whether Orsi or Delgado triumphed. He stressed that, as of this Monday, he was willing to reach a consensus on decisions that must be made and that affect the future. Uruguaytaking into account that from March 1 there will be a new government in charge.

In that sense, Orsi’s international debut as elected leader is expected during the XVL summit of the Mercosurwhich will take place in Montevideo on December 5 and 6 and in which the Argentine will be present Javier Milei.

The relationship between Orsi and Lacalle Pou is good, the Broad Front himself recalled on Sunday, arising from the coordination of policies when he was mayor, so both from the Broad Front (FA) As from the Executive they expect a transition without major shocks.

In a nod to the continuity of strong state policies of the current administration, Orsi confirmed that he will not invite the president of Venezuela, Nicolas Maduroto his assumption.

Although months ago he had not ruled it out, considering that the relationship exists between nations and not between rulers, that same reason is what led him to change his opinion, due to the low moment of diplomatic relations between Uruguay and Venezuela. It should be remembered that the Venezuelan regime has not yet provided information about the Uruguayan citizen detained in October, Fabian Buglione.
