Scandal in Tucumán: they found hundreds of kilos of social aid merchandise in a house

Hundreds of kilos of social merchandise were discovered in the home of an individual in San Miguel de Tucumánwhich had been delivered by the Ministry of Social Development of the provincial government for food assistance. The discovery generated a strong political impact and forced the head of that portfolio, Federico Massoto give a press conference in which he announced the start of an investigation to find those responsible for the diversion.

“I’m not going to give up”said the official when he was consulted about the questions raised by the opposition about the clandestine deposit.

The bales of noodles, rice, grass, tomato puree and boxes of powdered milk, with the printed legend “Sale prohibited”, were found by chance by the Police last weekend. Last Sunday, due to an investigation into a case of gender violence in the Manantial Sur neighborhood, agents from the 15th Police Station raided the home of an individual, in search of evidence about the accused, they informed Scope official sources.

The surprise was that in the house they found the merchandise stored, for which the man reported for gender violence, Juan Alberto López Cansillieri, could not give explanations. At this time he is detained for gender violence and for the opening of a case regarding food that should have been in an organization with a social purpose.

Among what was seized was a notebook where there would be notes of names of people and businesses to which the merchandise would have been sold, it was noted.. “When we broke into the home we were surprised by the amount of merchandise that was there. Everything was covered, so it could not be seen from the outside. It was an unexpected discovery,” the commissioner told the press. Martin Avilahead of the police station that was in charge of the operation.

Given the scandal that became public, this Tuesday Minister Masso gave a press conference in which he confirmed that the merchandise belongs to Social Development and gave details about the removal of the merchandise found in the home. “No control mechanism failed,” he insisted, but what is not clear is why it ended up with an individual who collected it at his home.

“The merchandise belongs to the Ministry of Social Development and is part of a delivery that was made to a social organization that has legal status and since we have been working like a year ago, no type of merchandise is given to individuals, but to different civil society organizations,” Masso began.

“It must be clarified that the detained person is Mr. López Cansilleri and his ID does not correspond to the order that was found at that address. The order to withdraw the company’s deposit Stone Axon November 20, corresponds to López Cansilleri’s father who has a social organization. We are facing a situation where the detainee has removed merchandise at another time but the merchandise seized by the Police corresponds to a Mr. López, who objectively is in the case and is the one who should be investigated,” he pointed out.

The merchandise has the seal “Prohibited for sale.”

Asked about the internal controls of the portfolio in his charge, he responded: “They have to understand that the province distributes 137,000 food modules for families who have a need problem. If we multiply that by 8 kilos, we are talking about a figure greater than 1,200,000 kilos of merchandise that is reaching 137,000 families, not only through civil society organizations, but through our municipalities. The lack of transparency ended here.” Masso showed documentation and suggested that it would be a campaign against him. “I’m not afraid of those who run a dirty campaign. And to those who mess with my family, be careful: I will go to the last consequences,” he said.

This afternoon, during an event and after Masso’s press conference, the governor was approached by the media Osvaldo Jaldowho was consulted about the scandal. “This case is a specific issue. The Police acted on the instructions of the governor so that the final consequence is reached. It is essential to know who removed the merchandise, what its destination was and why it was in that place,” he said. “We are not going to allow merchandise destined for the most vulnerable sectors to be marketed. The responsibility will fall on whoever corresponds, as determined by justice,” he concluded.

Request for resignations from La Libertad Avanza

The provincial legislator Joseph Macomefrom La Libertad Avanza and one of the main swords of President Javier Milei of the assembly of that space in Tucumán, asked for the resignation of the officials of the Ministry of Social Development, whom he held responsible for not complying with the controls in the delivery of the merchandise . “The lack of supervision has allowed intermediaries to manipulate distribution, benefiting from the need of the most vulnerable people,” he said.

“It is unacceptable that in a context of high vulnerability, the merchandise that should assist families in crisis remains in the hands of those who profit from hunger. This cannot continue,” said Macome. “The national government understood that intermediaries are part of the problem and acted. Today we see fewer pickets because people receive what they need without going through corrupt filters,” he added.
