The Ministry of Sports of Russia has joined in the implementation of the introduction of an electronic fan ID (Fan ID). Currently, the department is interacting with interested authorities, the Russian Football Union and the Russian Premier League, and is already developing a regulatory framework. This was stated by the head of the department Oleg Matytsin.
“We will continue to do everything necessary to effectively communicate with fan associations and properly inform them about the upcoming changes. Recall that the main goal of the adopted law on the introduction of the SIS is to ensure security at Russian stadiums, increase the attractiveness of sporting events, including for family visits, ”the press service of the Ministry of Sports quotes Matytsin.
Earlier on the same day, Sport-Express columnist Vyacheslav Korotkin called the adoption of the law on Fan ID, which regulates the need to issue a fan passport for spectators of sporting events, a controversial decision. In his opinion, such a measure will change little.
The introduction of this law was not approved by all fans – on January 24, Spartak and Zenit fans announced a boycott of matches of the Russian Football Championship and any other tournaments that can only be accessed with a Fan ID.
On December 30, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed the law on Fan ID for fans. Amendments were made to the federal law “On Physical Culture and Sports in the Russian Federation” in terms of introducing a system for identifying spectators. According to the document, the concept of “personalized card for visiting a sports competition” is introduced. The law will come into force on June 1, 2022.
