After Marco Perchtold (27th) and Petar Filipovic (89th) were excluded, the Graz team finished the game with nine and are now only two points ahead of bottom team Altach. Daniel Maderner (8th), Tio Cipot (11th) and Marco Gantschnig (36th) supposedly put the GAK on course for their third win in a row, but then the WAC hit back with “joker” goals. David Atanga (80th/penalty) and Angelo Gattermayer (83rd, 98th) were substituted on, as was GAK own goal scorer Martin Lang (92nd).
The WAC had more of the game from the start, but the GAK presented themselves much more efficiently and made it 2-0 with their first two serious attacks. First, Maderner headed a cross from Christian Lichtenberger into the net, then Maderner provided the assist for Cipot, who beat visiting goalie Nikolas Polster.
Perchtold received a red card after VAR intervention
The Carinthians tried to use playful means to crack the opponent who was waiting for a counterattack, but there were no compelling chances. Nothing changed when Perchtold was excluded after a tough fight against Thierno Ballo. Initially the midfielder only received a yellow card for the foul, but after VAR intervention he had to leave the pitch early.
