Reus is in the MLS final with LA Galaxy

Marco Reus has never been a champion in his professional career. In his first season with his new US team LA Galaxy, he can now change that straight away. Last hurdle: an old friend from the Bundesliga.

Marco Reus reached the final of the Major League Soccer in his debut season after moving to the USA and had the chance to win his first ever championship title with Los Angeles Galaxy. The favored team from California won 1-0 (0-0) against the Seattle Sounders – now the final is for the MLS Cup against the New York Red Bulls, who are coached by former Bundesliga coach Sandro Schwarz. Dejan Joveljic scored the winning goal in the 85th minute when Reus was already on the bench.

The long-time professional soccer player from Borussia Dortmund was substituted at halftime. “We have to see what’s going on. Marco felt something early on. He had problems after the last game, but trained at the end of the week. After 15 or 20 minutes he said he felt something,” said Galaxy coach Greg Vanney. “I don’t know if it was from a blow or where it came from.” Reus will be examined in the coming days.

The team from New York, for which former Leipzig player Emil Forsberg also plays, had also previously beaten Orlando City 1-0. New York has only been to the Major League Soccer final in 2008 and has never won the championship.

Galaxy, on the other hand, is now reaching for its sixth title after 2002, 2005, 2011, 2012 and 2014. For Reus it would be the first championship of his career. In his twelve years as a BVB professional, he won the DFB Cup twice and won the German Super Cup three times.
