Harry Kane is out injured: Bayern star has torn muscle fiber

As feared, Bayern Munich will have to do without Harry Kane for the time being. The English striker suffered a small muscle fiber tear in his thigh in the 1-1 (0-1) draw at Borussia Dortmund. Bayern announced this on Sunday. Kane was substituted in Dortmund in the 33rd minute and an MRI scan revealed the diagnosis.

The indispensable 100 million euro man was flown to Munich in a private jet that night and was examined on Säbener Strasse. On Sunday, which was actually a training-free day, the “Bild” newspaper reported, he was driven to the club premises by his wife Katie. A little later there was clarity.

Among other things, Kane will miss the round of 16 clash in the DFB Cup on Tuesday (8.45 p.m./ARD and Sky) against defending champions Bayer Leverkusen. It remains to be seen whether Kane will be replaced by Thomas Müller, as he did in Dortmund. “We all get along well at the front and we all know what each other is doing,” the former international said. Serge Gnabry can also play in the center – if he recovers from his knee problems in time and is fit to play. Mathys Tel, used on the wing in Dortmund and without much impact, would be another candidate.

Bayern coach Vincent Kompany had already feared that he would have to do without the captain of the English national team. “Of course it will be close,” he said in Dortmund. If the muscles are affected, things will be tight, speculated goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, and Kompany said he “doesn’t know many players who recover so quickly in such a short time.”

However, there was still hope, even “very great,” as Joshua Kimmich said. Ultimately, the substitution was “a precautionary measure,” said sports director Max Eberl.
