Record world champion with victory comeback

A year and a half after his retirement, Toni Eggert drove to his 55th World Cup victory in the doubles with his new partner Florian Müller. The 36-year-old was unbeatable during his comeback in Norway. The six-time overall World Cup winner recently worked as a trainer in the USA because his long-time partner Sascha Benecken had enough of the hustle and bustle and wanted to have more time for his family. “Now we must not become arrogant and think that things are going well,” said Eggert and warned against excessive euphoria: “Sometimes there are even small setbacks.” The record Olympic champions Tobias Wendl/Tobias Arlt and Hannes Orlamünder/Paul Constantin Gubitz came fifth and sixth.

Five-time world champion Julia Taubitz showed her class with a track record. “Starting the season with a win is super cool,” said the 28-year-old. In the women’s doubles, Jessica Degenhardt and Cheyenne Rosenthal also made it onto the podium in second place. Former world champion Dajana Eitberger (33) fell with her new toboggan partner Magdalena Matschina (19). “It’s very, very bitter,” said former individual world champion Eitberger. The day after there was a success in the newly created mixed competition together with Wendl/Arlt. Taubitz/Langenhan won the single-seater – the new competition format replaces the sprint.
