Sprint in Kontiolahti
Led by Nawrath: DSV biathletes show reaction
Philipp Nawrath hits all ten targets in the sprint and reaches the podium. It is the answer that the German biathlon team was hoping for after the problems in the individual.
Three days after the severe setback in the individual race, the German biathletes returned with a podium finish in the sprint thanks to Philipp Nawrath. Led by the flawless 31-year-old Bayern in third place, three of the six starters from the German Ski Association in Kontiolahti, Finland, made it into the top 20.
Émilien Jacquelin secured victory over 10 kilometers. Behind him, Sebastian Samuelsson (1 shooting error) from Sweden came in second, as did Nawrath, who hit all ten targets and was 25.1 seconds behind the Frenchman, who also made no mistakes.
In the individual competition, the Germans had major problems at the shooting range and missed an average of four times in four shooting sessions. This time they showed some improvement. Philipp Horn (2/17th), Johannes Kühn (2/19th), Danilo Riethmüller (1/21st) and Justus Strelow (1/29th) also moved forward. David Zobel, however, ended up in 62nd place with four extra laps.
