After his best training time on Thursday, Vincent Kriechmayr was a hot tip for his 19th World Cup victory at the start of the ski speed aces in Beaver Creek. But the double world champion from Cortina 2021 did not master the raptor slope optimally in the first descent of the season and had to settle for fifth place, 65 hundredths behind.
From his point of view, this is not satisfactory; the 33-year-old from Gramastetten always strives for the optimum, i.e. first place. The latter was reserved for a Swiss – but not the favored winner of the small crystal ball in this discipline, Marco Odermatt.
He came second, while compatriot Justin Murisier celebrated his first World Cup triumph with a lead of two tenths. For this he had to be almost 33 years old. “I was surprised that he was at the front. But he’s a super skier, he has the potential to win,” said Kriechmayr about the three-time Junior World Championships medalist from Crans-Montana 2011.
