McLaren gains self-confidence on the way to winning the constructors’ championship. Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris leave the competition behind in Abu Dhabi.
McLaren driver Oscar Piastri set the fastest time in the final training session before the Formula 1 season finale in Abu Dhabi. The Australian finished in top place ahead of his teammate Lando Norris in 1:23.433 minutes, while record world champion Lewis Hamilton in the Mercedes took third place, almost four tenths of a second behind. Shortly before qualifying in the afternoon, Nico Hülkenberg drove his Haas racing car to seventh place.
In terms of sport, the last racing weekend of the year is still about the world championship title for the constructors. In the standings, McLaren leads Ferrari by 21 points ahead of the Grand Prix on Sunday (2 p.m./Sky). Defending champion Red Bull no longer has a chance in third place. Among the drivers, Max Verstappen has been crowned world champion for two weeks.
