Back on the podium: Paschke jumps to third place
The German ski jumpers are showing increasing form – led by Pius Paschke. Only Andreas Wellinger falls slightly short of his own expectations.
Ski jumper Pius Paschke returned to the podium at the World Cup in Wisla, Poland. After two jumps of 127 meters each, the 34-year-old was only defeated by premiere winner Daniel Tschofenig from Austria and the Swiss Gregor Deschwanden.
“Pius made it up to him today,” said national coach Stefan Horngacher to ARD. “Basically we have to be happy with a podium finish. But the rest of the team is also showing improving form.”
Paschke was already on the podium in the first three competitions of the season and won two of them. Only at the station in Finland did the overall World Cup leader have to settle for seventh place last Sunday.
Wellinger botches the first jump
Karl Geiger ended up in eighth place as the second best German. Two other jumpers from the German Ski Association, Philipp Raimund (14th) and Stephan Leyhe (18th), made it into the top 20. Andreas Wellinger also reached the second round. However, in 22nd place, the 29-year-old fell short of his own expectations.
“The first jump was nothing at all. The second one was a little better, but not yet the fine blade,” said Wellinger. The winner of the second competition in Ruka was already thinking about the competition on Sunday. It is now a matter of analyzing the two experiments well, said Wellinger.
