Riethmüller “really satisfied” after fourth place in the mass start

The podium didn’t work out for Danilo Riethmüller. But the best World Cup result of his career consoles the 25-year-old.

Biathlete Danilo Riethmüller narrowly missed another podium finish for the German Ski Association at the World Cup station in Kontiolahti, Finland. In the third mass start of his career, the 25-year-old celebrated his best career result in fourth place after missing a shot in the last stage.

“Of course it would have been even nicer to fight for the podium in the sprint. But I noticed right from the start that I wasn’t on track so well today. In terms of feeling, I was missing a bit of punch,” said Riethmüller ARD. “Overall I’m really happy with the day.”

Two Frenchmen in front of a Norwegian

Victory was secured after 15 kilometers by Eric Perrot, who also had to do an extra lap. His French compatriot Quentin Fillon Maillet (3 shooting errors) and Sturla Holm Laegreid (2) from Norway crossed the finish line in second and third place.

The second best German was Justus Strelow in eleventh place. After the first shooting session, the Saxon was still on course for the podium, then he missed three times. The sprint third Philipp Nawrath (5/17th), Johannes Kühn (6/22nd) and Philipp Horn (6/25th) ultimately played no role in the fight for the top ten positions due to too many penalties.
