Russian biathlete Anton Babikov finished second in the 20 km individual race at the European Championships, winning the IBU Cup Small Crystal Globe in the individual race standings. This was announced on January 26 by Sport-Express with reference to the press service of the Russian Biathlon Union.
The 30-year-old athlete is the 2017 world relay champion, winner and prize-winner of the World Cup stages. Three times he won the European Championship.
Babikov was included in the national team for the Olympics as a substitute.
On January 23, in Italy, at the Antholz-Anterselva ski resort, the last stage of the Biathlon World Cup before the Beijing Olympics ended.
The Russian biathletes performed successfully during the race, the team has Babikov’s personal gold and two silver medals in the men’s and women’s relay races.
On January 17, President of the Russian Biathlon Union Viktor Maigurov announced the composition of the national team for the Olympic Games in Beijing. The team included Serokhvostov, Latypov, Loginov, as well as Karim Khalili and Maxim Tsvetkov.
