This year the Braford Argentina Association turns 40, maintaining continuous growth and developing as a tool to improve the productive efficiency of beef herds in various environments.
Since its founding and with the help of its breeders, the breed has pursued the objective of positioning itself as a benchmark in the production of quality meat in marginal environments with extreme temperatures, low-quality pastures and a high parasite load. Today it has a growing participation in the various productive environments, providing tools that improve decision-making and promote the efficiency and profitability of productive systems. So much so, that Braford has a presence in 16 of the 23 provinces of the country and represents almost 20% of the national herd with around 11 million head between Braford and its crosses.
Currently more than 400 cabins and 600 members make up the association, which works daily on the development of tools and projects to accompany and add value to producers. In 2024, it will be 19 years since the launch of PegBraf, the genetic evaluation program that has data from more than 420,000 individuals from 258 cabins. It provides information on weight at birth, weight at weaning, weight at 18 months, scrotal circumference, steak eye area, dorsal and hip coverage fat, intramuscular fat or marbling and residual consumption or RFI of the evaluated breeders. which facilitate decision making and promote efficiency. Program that continues to constantly evolve and to which genomics was incorporated as a tool for innovation and improvement.
Today, with more than 40,000 individuals inspected per year, the breed is positioned as the fastest growing, promoting the motto that identifies us “The breed that grows the most” and continues its growth through countless projects.
In response to new demands, Braford has developed its sustainability program, Braford Carbon Zero, which makes a tool available to producers and breeders to determine the carbon balance, responding to global demands and promoting productive efficiency. being the first bovine breed to do so.
