Oliver Kahn blames the Bochum goalkeeper

After the lighter scandal in Berlin, emotions are running high. Oliver Kahn also has an opinion on the case – the people of Bochum won’t like to hear it.

After the lighter throw in Berlin, Oliver Kahn also spoke out. The former national goalkeeper, who was often thrown at with objects by opposing fans during his professional career, would have liked Bochum goalkeeper Patrick Drewes, who was hit in the head, to behave differently.

“I would have found it better if the goalkeeper had tried to continue playing. And only allowed himself to be replaced when it was no longer possible,” the 55-year-old told “Bild”.

Oliver Kahn once had a golf ball thrown at him: “It could have been life-threatening”

A 16-year-old Freiburg fan hit the former world-class keeper Kahn in the head when throwing a golf ball in April 2000. Covered in blood, the Bayern professional handed the ball to the referee, but was able to end the game. Munich won 2-1. The sports club was sentenced to pay a fine of 75,000 marks.

“In Freiburg my body released so much adrenaline that I didn’t feel any pain at first. The hit could have been life-threatening,” said Kahn, who was also often pelted with bananas, chestnuts and other objects.

Bochum defends Drewes

Bochum managing director Ilja Kaenzig had previously criticized allegations against Drewes’ behavior. “The mood was heated. There were ugly comments not only in the stands, but also in the catacombs, where accusations of acting were made,” said the 51-year-old on Bild TV. “There is a perpetrator-victim reversal.”

Drewes was hit in the head by a lighter from the Berlin block in stoppage time in the game against 1. FC Union Berlin (1-1) on Saturday. He couldn’t continue playing. The duel was interrupted for more than 25 minutes in stoppage time. The Bochum team’s announced objection to the game’s rating is expected this Monday.
