Fury on mental problems: “Boxing is not my greatest victory”

There will be a rematch between boxing superstars Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk in Riyadh this weekend. Before the duel, the Briton Fury talks about his mental problems in the past.

Boxing superstar Tyson Fury considers the fight against his mental problems to be far more important than his numerous successes as an athlete. “I don’t think boxing itself is my greatest victory,” the 36-year-old Brit told streaming provider DAZN before the rematch against Ukrainian Oleksandr Usyk on Saturday evening in Riyadh. He returned to life after a suicide attempt. “I have returned from the depths of despair,” Fury added.

The former three-time world title holder lost the biggest fight of his career against Usyk in May after a split decision (1:2). His Ukrainian opponent secured all four major world championship belts – for the first time since Lennox Lewis more than 25 years ago.

Fighting depression and drug use

Usyk is considered the favorite in the rematch, which is expected around 11 p.m. German time. “Going in there and getting paid a lot of money to do a boxing match with some clown is child’s play compared to what I had to go through,” Fury continued.

The heavyweight boxer surprisingly defeated Wladimir Klitschko in 2015 and later battled depression and drug use.
