San Isidro: the “Ojos en Alerta” program received 600 alerts from neighbors and allowed 25 arrests

The citizen participation tool already directly connects more than 6,000 residents with the municipality’s Operations Center, to detect and respond to situations of insecurity, reinforcing crime prevention throughout the district.

The municipality of San Isidro incorporated the program in June of this year “Eyes on Alert” to your Security System. Six months later, it became a key tool fighting crime in the district: since its launch 600 alerts were received, there were 25 arrests, a stolen car was recovered and more than 6,000 neighbors were trained. By 2025, it is expected to reach a total of 20,000.

“Eyes on Alert” is a program direct communication between neighbors and the municipalitythrough WhatsApp, to send the Municipal Operations Center (COM) text and/or voice messages, photos, videos and location in real time, in the event of any eventuality that requires the intervention of the security force, the health area or of communal assistance. Neighbors who join the program receive training to be part of the network.

Ramón Lanús, local mayor, declared: “We know that insecurity is the main concern of the neighbors and that is why it is the main axis of our management. We said we were going to take care of the problem and we are doing it. With ‘Eyes on Alert’ we provide an agile and simple tool that complements the communication channels of our security system. It was a paradigm shift, a cultural change that made a difference; Sanisidrenses are protagonists and have a relevant role so that together we can achieve a city where we can live more peacefully.”

“He balance of these months is very positivebecause the neighbors adopted the tool and got involved, which allowed us to intervene immediately in the event of possible criminal acts or emergencies,” he added.

Six months after its incorporation, the program has brought great results to San Isidro

Communication via WhatsApp, between neighbors and the Municipality, allowed the arrest of 25 suspects for different acts such as outbursts, drug possession, attempted robbery and a stolen car was even found. Of the total alerts, 62% were preventive, while the remaining were for criminal acts caught red-handed. Regarding the format of communications, the most chosen was text, with a percentage of 48% of the total alerts. Likewise, 3 out of 10 alerts used photos and videos.

The procedure occurs as follows: the notifications are received by the COM operators, who monitor the episode through the different video surveillance tools and assist the neighbors by sending a police cell phone, an ambulance, or a civil defense unit. or providing the appropriate response to the circumstance.

Since June, 350 free training sessions have been carried out in municipal offices, neighborhood clubs, businesses and private homes. Today more than 6,000 neighbors can already use this tool. By 2025, the municipality plans to reach about 20 thousand Sanisidren residents.

They must complete the form and then attend the training that is offered on different days, times and points in the district. Once this instance is concluded, the neighbors will receive the WhatsApp number to which they can send their messages.

“Eyes on Alert” complements the Security program of the Municipality of San Isidro, which has 1,293 cameras distributed throughout all the towns of the district, 46 motorcycles and 120 mobile phones – armored, with GPS and connected to the Municipal Operations Center – that patrol the streets of the district 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
