After the World Cup exit: Darter Clemens reports on hate messages
The Darts World Cup in London ends for Gabriel Clemens after the second round. Now the darter is making public what he learned in the hours afterwards.
After the early exit from the Darts World Cup in London, German professional Gabriel Clemens said he received a lot of hate messages. It’s unbelievable how much hatred, insults and “even worse things” are directed at him, the 41-year-old from Saarland wrote in a post on Instagram. He finds it particularly bad when he recognizes children in their profile pictures – he hopes “your children will look for other role models.”
Clemens lost to outsider Robert Owen from Wales 1:3 in the second round on Thursday evening. Clemens, who completely unexpectedly made it to the World Cup semi-finals two years ago, missed the final phase of the tournament from December 27th.
Clemens himself is “totally dissatisfied” with the situation, he writes. “Robert was simply the better player yesterday.” Therefore he can also understand objective criticism. “But there are so many people in the world who have much worse worries than me.” He cites wars or health and financial problems as examples. “Perhaps we should think about it, especially now during the Christmas season,” he appeals.
The darts professional wants to recharge his batteries over the holidays and then prepare for the new season. Because one thing is certain: “I will stand up more than I fall.”
