Biathlon pursuit: Riethmüller seventh in pursuit – Bö takes third victory

The German biathletes showed solid performances in the last pursuit of the year, but missed the podium places at the World Cup in Le Grand-Bornand. The best German was Danilo Riethmüller, who hit the mark with 19 of 20 shots and stormed up from 29th place to 7th place. He also achieved the second fastest running time and thus secured participation in the final mass start on Sunday (12.30 p.m./ARD and Eurosport).

“It was a solid race and I’m happy that it worked out so well,” said Riethmüller on ARD. Recently he had delivered some weak results and lost a possible podium place with a penalty loop in the Hochfilzen relay. With seventh place, he now met the World Cup standard.

Directly behind him was Philipp Horn, fourth in the sprint, who had to go into the penalty loop twice. The 30-year-old started the race just 29 seconds behind sprint winner Martin Uldal from Norway, but this time he was unable to keep up with the best on the course.

Record world champion Bö in his own league

Meanwhile, record world champion Johannes Thingnes Bö celebrated his 79th World Cup victory. The sprint runner-up from Norway only missed once and secured his third victory of the season in a superior manner. The flawless Frenchman Eric Perrot came second, 27.6 seconds behind, ahead of his teammate Emilien Jacquelin (2 errors/+ 47.5 seconds).

Justus Strelow (1 mistake) came 13th, Philipp Nawrath had to settle for 17th place after four penalties. Johannes Kühn (3) crossed the finish line in 23rd place, Simon Kaiser (6) in 47th position.
