A creation that was born in the context of the Franco dictatorship and became one of the most popular games.

In 1936 the civil war raged in Spain and a young man who dreamed of being an architect, but worked as a bricklayer, was trapped in the rubble by bombings from the Falangist sector. Alejandro Campos Ramírez, in addition to being trapped by the debris, also broke one of his legs due to the impact.

At the hospital, he is among several cases similar to his, of many children who will no longer be able to walk again. And he, a football lover, feels compassion for those children who will never walk or play those types of sports again. Therefore, inspired by table tennis, he started planning the same with football. In the same hospital, Ramírez obtained some steel bars and a Basque refugee carpenter, Javier Altuna, turned the wooden dolls for him.

How foosball was created

The table box was made with pine wood and the ball with a good Catalan cork.well agglomerated. This allowed good control of the ball, stopping it and creating effects: the swirl, for example. Then, in the context of that civil war, Alejandro Campos Ramírez had created foosball, which in Argentina was known as foosball.

Anyway, That invention did not give him fame, success or money.. He suffered prison, had to go into exile and in Mexico he was part of the bohemia and universal culture always present in Aztec lands. He also changed his name, becoming Alejandro Finisterre in honor of his place of origin.

When they asked him in 2007, shortly before he died, what he thought of new games like the Playstation, which came to replace his invention, far from getting angry he answered: “I believe in progress, there is a human impulse towards happiness, peace , justice and love, and that world will one day come!”
