The AFA analyzes that the classification for International Cups is through a ranking system

The Executive Committee of the Argentine Football Association (AFA)would analyze the possibility of modifying the classification system for international cups for the next one and introducing a “internal ranking between teams”.

According to the bulletin issued by the regulatory entity, it ensures that “Different possibilities are being analyzed to establish the classification starting with the 2025 season, from the First Division teams to CONMEBOL Libertadores 2026 and CONMEBOL Sudamericana 2026.”

Currently, the clubs qualify for the different international cups based on what they have done throughout the year in the annual table of the Professional Soccer League (the first three places go to the Libertadores Cup and the six following South American Cup), without counting the champions of the local tournament, Argentine Cup and the two contests with international participation.

In turn, the Official Bulletin 6604 of the AFA Executive Committee write that you can reach “establish a ranking system for the Clubs of the Category, from the beginning of the Professional Football League and taking into consideration their participation in both national and international competitions.”

The other changes that the AFA recently established

First of all, the Argentine Football Association agreed to the request of First C to maintain Paraguayan Sports in the category despite having finished last, which would cause the team to be disaffiliated.

“At the request of the Divisional Primera C and considering the reasons invoked, the Executive Committee approved to annul, for 2024, the season disaffiliation of the Club Atlético Deportivo Paraguayo, which will continue to participate in the First Division competitions of the First C Category in the year 2025,” writes the bulletin.

On the other hand, the AFA decided annul two relegations in women’s football Therefore, only two institutions will be downgraded, instead of four as originally planned.

Meanwhile, Central Rosary and Hurricane will remain in the First Division of the Women’s Soccerwhile Students from Buenos Aires and Hikers will go down to the Second Division.

“At the request of the Women’s Football Commission, considering it appropriate for the consolidation and development of the discipline, the Executive Committee approved reducing the relegations for the 2024 season from four (4) to two (2),” the official statement said.
