That left an opportunity for the next movie Alejandro G. Iñárritu and Tom Cruise hits theaters in 2026, just when the awards race begins. The as-yet-untitled film will be released on Imax on October 2, the date vacated by The Batman 2.

Changes to the Warner Bros. release schedule.
Warner Bros. made some additional changes to its upcoming release schedule, swapping the releases of Mickey 17 of Bong Joon-ho and Sinners of Ryan Coogler. Now, Mickey 17, starring Robert Pattinsonwill be released on March 7, 2025, while Sinners, which reunites Coogler with his star of Black Panther and Fruitvale Station, Michael B. Jordanwill be moved to April 18, 2025. That’s the date Mickey 17 was originally supposed to debut, but the new release will allow Bong’s film to play longer in Imax, according to studio sources.
Cruise and Iñárritu’s film is shrouded in secrecy, but according to the official summary that Warner Bros. released, it follows the “most powerful man in the world” as he “embarks on a frantic mission to prove that he is the savior of humanity before May the disaster that has been unleashed destroy everything.” The star cast includes Sandra Hüller, John Goodman, Michael Stuhlbarg, Jesse Plemons, Sophie Wilde and Riz Ahmed. It’s a change of pace for Cruise, who has been busy saving the world in more conventional action films like Mission: Impossible and Top Gun: Maverick.
Mickey 17 follows the story of a man (Pattinson), whose job is to die for a living. The cast includes Mark Ruffalo, Naomi Ackie, Steven Yeun and Toni Collette.
Sinners is a horror film in which Jordan plays twin brothers who return home to encounter “an even greater evil.” The cast also includes Hailee Steinfeld, Jack O’Connell, Wunmi Mosaku, Jayme Lawson, Omar Miller and Delroy Lindo. Sinners’ date change was due in part to a lack of post-production facilities to help put the finishing touches on the film.
