For several days, some of Trump’s followers in the technology sector, including Elon Musk, have been in a debate with conservative figures who promote an anti-immigration position.
The president-elect of the United States, Donald Trump, said he is in favor of giving visas to qualified foreign workers, a position in line with that of his new advisor, the technology magnate Elon Musk, which causes concern among his anti-immigration followers.

“I have always liked the H1-B (visa) program, I have always been in favor of visas and that is why we have them”Trump told the New York Post, referring to employees of his own companies.

For several days, some of Trump’s followers in the technology sector, including Elon Musk, have been in a debate with conservative figures who promote an anti-immigration position.
What are H1-B visas?
H1-B visas allow companies to import foreign workers with specific qualifications to the United States and are widely used in Silicon Valley, a mecca for technology companies.
The speech in favor of H1-B visas worries an ultra-conservative sector, among other reasons because Trump attacked migrants throughout his campaign and was elected with a hard-line program against immigration. Billionaire Elon Musk himself, originally from South Africa, benefited from this type of visa in the past.
“The reason why I am in the United States like those who built SpaceX, Tesla and hundreds of other companies (…) is because of H1-B”Musk wrote on Friday on his social network X, and promised to “go to war over this issue.”
Donald Trump’s former advisor in the White House, the far-right Steve Bannon, criticized on Friday what he called the “scam of Silicon Valley oligarchs to take jobs away from American citizens.”
In the past, Trump had expressed his opposition to H1-B visas, which he then described as “very unfair to American workers.”
In fact, during his first term, he imposed certain restrictions on these visas, which were later lifted by the administration of outgoing President Joe Biden.
Some of Trump’s supporters say they fear he will fall under the influence of big tech donors like Musk and back away from his campaign promises.
