Ricardo “Pikachu” Pietreczko
Darts World Cup: The last German is quietly eliminated
Ricardo Pietreczko has no chance in the World Cup round of 16 against world-class professional Nathan Aspinall. The Darts World Cup continues without German participation.
Ricardo “Pikachu” Pietreczko clearly missed out on making it to the quarter-finals of the Darts World Cup and has to tick off the big triumph in London. The 30-year-old from Nuremberg clearly lost 4-0 to Englishman Nathan Aspinall in the round of 16. On New Year’s Day he will either face top favorite Luke Littler or his English compatriot Ryan Joyce.
“Pikachu” at least won the first leg
Pikachu, as the German is called, clearly missed a third surprise in this tournament. Before Christmas he defeated the Dutchman Gian van Veen 3-1. After the holidays, they managed a confident 4-1 win against last year’s semi-finalist Scott Williams from England.
In front of 3,500 spectators, Pietreczko took the first leg against the former World Matchplay winner, but was clearly inferior after that and had no chance of winning. Most of the time he didn’t get any throws at the double fields that he had previously hit so brilliantly.
Four games at the Darts World Cup on New Year’s Day
Pietreczko overtakes Gabriel Clemens as German number two in the world rankings. Clemens from Saarland was the only German to reach the quarterfinals of the most important tournament in the world in 2023. On New Year’s Day there will be two games in the afternoon (1.30 p.m./Sport1 and DAZN) and in the evening (8 p.m.). The semi-finals take place on January 2nd, the final a day later.
