Pius Paschke, who placed second in the overall World Cup, landed in eighth place with an equally long attempt. The Austrian Jan Hörl secured victory, ahead of the Norwegian Johann Andre Forfang and Gregor Deschwanden from Switzerland.

All German starters qualified

The other German starters Andreas Wellinger, Karl Geiger, Felix Hoffmann and Adrian Tittel also qualified for the competition of the best 50 athletes this Saturday (1.30 p.m./ARD and Eurosport). Then the Bergisel with 22,500 spectators has been sold out again for a long time.

“Okay for today, but tomorrow it has to be better,” said Geiger on ARD about his qualifying jump of 120 meters, which resulted in 19th place. Coach Horngacher said with a view to the tour ranking: “Of course we’re not giving up and will really step on the gas tomorrow. The Pius is not that far away.”
