Premier League: England’s national coach Tuchel: stadium tour to take office

Thomas Tuchel attended a Premier League game for the first time in his role as England national football coach. At Tottenham Hotspur’s home game against Newcastle United, Tuchel, who officially took office on January 1st, sat in the stands at the London Stadium.

With temperatures around two degrees, Tuchel wore a thick winter coat and a baseball cap on his head, with his assistant Anthony Barry sitting next to him in the stands. Tuchel, who starts the World Cup qualifying against Albania on March 21 with a home game, had already announced weeks ago: “From January we will see many matches live and talk to the players.” On Sunday, the 51-year-old is expected at Anfield Road for Liverpool FC’s game against Manchester United (5.30 p.m./Sky).

Which stars for Tuchel?

On Saturday, Tuchel initially saw England international Dominic Solanke in the starting line-up at Tottenham, as well as England U21 international Archie Gray. At Newcastle, England’s European Championship participant Anthony Gordon was in the starting lineup, as was left-back Lewis Hall, who only made his national team debut in November. EM driver Kieran Trippier, on the other hand, sat on the substitute bench for the guests.

At the end of December, Tuchel had already sent a message to the English fans. The football association published a video on social media. “A short message to all our fans. Merry Christmas, a happy new year. Stay healthy, stay safe and see you in the stadium in the new year,” said the former former Bundesliga coach in the almost nine-second clip.
