With Gauff and Fritz: US team wins United Cup
The USA starts the United Cup as the big favorites. In the finale, Coco Gauff and Taylor Fritz do justice to this role. The result is also a pointer for the first Grand Slam tournament.
The American tennis team has won the United Cup for the second time, following Germany as title holders. The US team won both singles matches in the final against Poland and could no longer be defeated. The USA had already won the first edition two years ago.
Coco Gauff won the start of the final in Sydney against world number two Iga Swiatek 6:4, 6:4. Taylor Fritz then defeated Hubert Hurkacz in a hard-fought game after 2:18 hours 6:4, 5:7, 7:6 (7:4).
Germany failed in the quarterfinals
The German team around Alexander Zverev won the United Cup in the final against Poland last year. In this edition, the German selection failed in the quarter-finals against Kazakhstan; Alexander Zverev had to miss the game due to a biceps injury.
For many tennis professionals, the United Cup is the start of the new season and at the same time an important preparation for the Australian Open, which begins in a week.
