For St. Brown and the Lions, “the show is just beginning”
Football star Amon-Ra St. Brown is having an outstanding season and finishing first in the NFL with the Detroit Lions. But the top receiver has a bigger goal.
After the next demonstration of their strength, Amon-Ra St. Brown and his Detroit Lions made a firm resolution for the NFL playoffs while on the field. “The show is just beginning now,” promised the German-American football star, whose team secured one of the coveted two byes for the first round of the playoffs with an impressive 31:9 win against the Minnesota Vikings.
“We put the lid on it and took the top spot,” St. Brown summarized in a post on X. Thanks to the sweeping victory in the last regular season game, the Lions would now have home advantage in all games up to the Super Bowl.
And that despite the fact that neither St. Brown nor quarterback Jared Goff showed their usual overwhelming dominance in the big game. Instead, running back Jahmyr Gibbs stepped into the breach with four touchdowns and the equally outstanding defense. “What a victory,” coach Dan Campbell cheered: “I couldn’t be prouder of my boys.”
Twelve touchdowns as a new personal best for St. Brown
It was a reflection of the strong season that St. Brown consistently finished in first place with the Lions. Only defending champion Kansas City Chiefs have an equally good record. And the big goal is to prevent them from winning their third title in a row.
Although St. Brown set a new personal best with twelve touchdowns this season and is once again among the top group in terms of passes caught (115) and yards secured (1,263), the only thing that counts for the wide receiver and Detroit is the team’s success .
“It’s just the first step,” emphasized playmaker Goff after the Lions clinched the top spot in the NFC for the first time in their history: “We’re proud of it, no question about it, but we’ve just ticked off the first task. Now the next one is coming.”
Special connection to quarterback Jared Goff
For them, it will again depend on a top performance from St. Brown and his quarterback, who have built a special connection during their three years in Detroit. The duo is now one of the strongest in the league in all relevant statistics. Coach Campbell knows that too. “They make each other better,” the coach says of the close friends, both of whom are from California.
And they have undergone a remarkable development, as St. Brown never tires of emphasizing. “All the hard work we put into developing the team every day is now paying off,” said the German-American shortly before Christmas.
A disappointment as an important experience
An important part of this development was the disappointment last season, when Detroit gave up a 17-point lead in the game for a place in the Super Bowl against the San Francisco 49ers. “We learned a lot last year and got so much better,” St. Brown said.
It seems entirely possible that the “show” named by St. Brown will now go so far as to include Detroit’s first triumph in the Super Bowl. In any case, it is clear that the Lions are a force to be reckoned with this year – and especially thanks to Amon-Ra St. Brown.
