Extortive kidnappings increased by 50% in 2024, but the downward trend since 2015 continues

During 2024 there were 26 extortionate kidnappings throughout the country, 50% more than in 2023but far from the 294 in 2015. This was reported by the Specialized Fiscal Unit in Organized Crime (UFECO), who assured that the downward trend continues despite the increase.

From the Public Prosecutor’s Office, they highlighted that It was the second year with fewer extortion kidnappings since the peak of 2015, in which there were 294 cases. On average, there were 2.17 per month. The report was prepared based on the statistical data collected by the Specialized Unit headed by federal prosecutor Santiago Marquevich.

Among the aspects to highlight, the Prosecutor’s Office mentioned the decrease in cases in the Buenos Aires Metropolitan Area (AMBA) and growth in other provinces such as Córdoba.
