As with the women, the second round was canceled due to the adverse conditions and the competition was only one jump. The Japanese Four Hills Tournament winner coped best with wind and rain and won ahead of Norway’s Halvor Egner Granrud and Marius Lindvik. Daniel Huber was ninth as the best ÖSV jumper, Stefan Kraft was 26th.
Kobayashi took over the lead in the overall World Cup from Karl Geiger after winning a 145-meter dash. The German only came in 20th. It was even worse for the Slovenian Anze Lanisek, most recently three times in a row on the World Cup podium, who finished 36th with 104.5 meters and went away empty-handed.
Chance for young jumpers
In the Austrian team, in the absence of the Olympic starters Manuel Fettner, Jan Hörl and Daniel Tschofenig as well as Clemens Aigner, who was missing after a positive corona test, some young jumpers got the chance to participate in the World Cup. The 19-year-old Markus Müller from Carinthia made the best use of this, jumping 124 meters and finishing 18th. Beijing starter Daniel Huber managed a 134 meter jump, which was enough for a top ten place.
Kraft, who is still looking for the right form for the Olympics, did not fare so well. The man from Salzburg only managed 119.5 meters. Maximilian Steiner and Markus Rupitsch placed 24th and 25th ahead of Kraft. Thomas Lackner was 28th, Stefan Rainer was 43rd.
