Füllkrug with a new coach: Out for Lopetegui at West Ham
National striker Füllkrug gets a new coach at West Ham United. The English first division team has parted ways with Spaniard Lopetegui. A successor should be ready.
German national soccer player Niclas Füllkrug from Premier League club West Ham United is getting a new coach. As the first division club from London announced, the club has parted ways with Spanish coach Julen Lopetegui. The 58-year-old, who won the Europa League with Sevilla FC in 2020, only became the Hammers’ coach in July last year.
“The first half of the 2024/25 season did not meet the club’s ambitions and the club has therefore taken action in line with its objectives,” said West Ham. United does not want to comment on a successor.
Potter should be his successor
The PA news agency reported that former Chelsea and Brighton coach Graham Potter is set to replace Lopetegui. The talks with the clubless 49-year-old are said to be well advanced.
West Ham is currently in 14th place in the table, seven points clear of relegation zone. In the last eleven games, the team only won three times. Lopetegui’s team suffered heavy defeats against the top teams from Liverpool (0:5) and Manchester City (1:4). The hitherto hapless filling pitcher, who moved to London in the summer and was then dealing with an injury, scored his second goal in the Premier League against City.
