After the Federal Justice of Esquel authorized the eviction of a Mapuche community from Los Alerces National Park, in Chubut, The Government confirmed that, after exhausting all judicial and peaceful means, it will carry out the procedure this Thursday, January 9.
Through a statement, the Ministry of National Security reported that ““The self-proclaimed Mapuche group led by Cruz Cárdenas will be evicted, which since 2020 has usurped and illegally occupied protected areas of the Los Alerces National Park.”

“The occupation, which includes a section of Park Rangers, has generated conflicts in the area, with verbal and physical attacks on the staff of the National Parks Administration, in addition to serious damage to the property rights of the National State,” the authorities explained.
Likewise, they recalled that the Government decided not to extend Law No. 26,160 on indigenous territorial emergency, which they described as “legislation promoted and supported by previous administrations, which suspended the execution of evictions in territories claimed by certain groups.”

“With this decision, he regains the power to act in defense of property and legal order throughout the national territory, provided that there are firm sentences issued by Justice,” they pointed out.
