These are the winners of the World Sports Photography Awards 2025
Sport inspires people all over the world – and creates unique moments. Photographers who capture these are recognized annually at the World Sports Photography Awards.
The best sports photos from the world’s best sports photographers can be admired at the World Sport Photography Awards. The prize is awarded every year and honors unique recordings. More than 2,200 photographers from over 96 countries submitted their photos for this year’s award. This resulted in more than 13,000 images in a total of 24 categories.
You can see all the winners of the respective categories in this photo series. The pictures show athletes from different areas with all their emotions, passion and athleticism.
The German sports moments of the year
Record game
The opening game of the 2024 European Handball Championship in Germany took place on January 10th in front of over 50,000 spectators in the Düsseldorf stadium – a world record! The DHB selection delighted the fans and clearly beat Switzerland 27:14. At the end of the tournament, coach Alfred Gislason’s team had to settle for 4th place. At the Olympic Games in the summer, the handball players spectacularly won the silver medal

These sports photos took the overall win
It is no surprise that Jerome Brouillet won gold in the “Aquatic” category and overall victory at the World Sports Photography Awards 2025 with his photo “Golden Moment”. His unique shot shows Brazilian surfer Gabriel Medina after his historic victory at the Paris Olympics. Medina achieved the best score in Olympic history. He celebrated his success with his finger raised in the air above the water.

With his photo “Heaven,” photographer Petr Slavik took second place in the overall competition and also won gold in the “Winter Sports” category. And third place and gold in the “Motor Sports” category went to Anton Anestiev with “Zebra Crossing”.
