British boxing star Fury ends career
Recently there have been persistent rumors about Tyson Fury’s next fight, but the heavyweight superstar has now dispelled them. The Klitschko conqueror ends his career. Again.
Tyson Fury has once again ended his boxing career a few weeks after his defeat in the heavyweight spectacle against Oleksandr Usyk. “I’ll keep it short and sweet. I would like to announce my retirement from boxing. It was a lot of fun. I loved every single minute of it,” the 36-year-old Brit told his 6.9 million subscribers on the Instagram platform in a video message .
Recently there was speculation that the two British former world champions Fury and Anthony Joshua might compete against each other this year.
In 2015, Fury took a long break after the surprising World Cup victory against then champion Wladimir Klitschko and later reported mental problems and drug use. The comeback followed about three years later. Fury then ended his career in 2022 after the duel with compatriot Dillian Whyte – and was back in the ring at the end of the year.
The “Gypsy King” – Fury’s nickname – won many fans around the world thanks to his impulsive, provocative and entertaining nature. The 2.06 meter tall giant, who was born in Manchester, celebrated big victories against the American Deontay Wilder in 2021 and 2022 after thrilling fights.
Two defeats against Usyk
Just before Christmas, Fury lost the rematch against the Ukrainian Usyk on points, as he did in the first fight in May. All three referees scored the duel in the Saudi Arabian capital Riyadh 116:112 for Usyk. The ex-champion, who had seen himself as the winner in both fights, raged that he had been “robbed”.
Fury collected 34 victories in his career, including 24 by knockout. There are also two defeats against Usyk and a draw against Wilder.
