Altmaier misses third round at Australian Open
Of the German tennis men, only Alexander Zverev made it to the third round of the Australian Open. In round two, Daniel Altmaier was defeated by a French veteran.
Daniel Altmaier missed out on making it to the third round of the Australian Open. The 26-year-old had to admit defeat to Frenchman Gaël Monfils 5:7, 3:6, 6:7 (3:7).
This means that only Alexander Zverev is represented among the German tennis men. The world number two reached the third round with an easy three-set win against the Spaniard Pedro Martinez. Jan-Lennard Struff, Yannick Hanfmann and Dominik Koepfer were already eliminated before Altmaier.
The 38-year-old Monfils, who recently won the ATP tournament in Auckland, is in the third round in Melbourne for the twelfth time in his career. Of the active players, only Serbia’s tennis star Novak Djokovic (17) has a better record in this statistic.
