President Javier Milei confirmed that his task at the head of the government “It is truly titanic”, in addition to highlighting the achievements of his administration, after receiving an award in Washington, the US capital.
During the speech he gave tonight at the Omni hotel in that city, where he was awarded the Titan of Economic Reform award, the president considered that the distinction awarded to him “is really accurate.”
The president attended the gala together with the Secretary General of the Presidency, Karina Milei, the chancellor Gerardo Werthein, and the Minister of Economy, Luis Caputo.
“The task we have been carrying out in Argentina for a year is truly titanic. Not only because of the size, complexity and depth of the reforms we are carrying out, but also because we must fight against extortion and sabotage by corporate interests entrenched in the power of the old regime,” he added.
Likewise, he warned that “the battle is long and we need the right intellectual tools to win it.”
“We Argentines are accustomed to disappointment, a product of having lived in a country infected by socialism for a hundred years,” the president stressed during his speech. He also pointed out that another of his government’s battles “it is against gradualism“, and added that “there have been dictatorships and democratic governments, but the only constant has been collectivism in some of its forms.”
Milei pointed out that “there have been, it is true, reformist experiences, but until now all of them had failed. None had been able to make the transition from impoverishing socialism to redeeming capitalism for the poor.”
Furthermore, he considered that the 20th century “was that of Argentine humiliation” and added that “no one had dared” to make fundamental changes, with the exception of Carlos Menem during his first government.

Finally, Milei asserted that “even having made all the changes that we have made in this first year of governmentwhich has also been classified almost univocally as an absolute success, since in the first year we have achieved the fiscal surplus in 123 years, we have lowered wholesale inflation from 54% to 0.8%, we have reduced poverty from 55% to 38% in one year.”
