After stab injury: Shiffrin announces World Cup comeback

The best alpine athlete in the world is returning to the slopes just in time for the World Ski Championships. Mikaela Shiffrin can compete again after a forced break. She reveals how she is doing now.

Ski racer Mikaela Shiffrin returns to the Alpine Ski World Cup after a two-month break due to injury. The American announced that she would be flying to Europe in the next few days and taking part in the night slalom in Courchevel next Thursday. The event in France is the last women’s race before the World Championships in Saalbach-Hinterglemm at the beginning of February.

Shiffrin said on the “Today” show on US television: “The healing process is not over yet, but I feel strong enough to compete. I don’t have any pain anymore, the muscles are working. Physically I’m fine good.”

Ski pole rammed into stomach – wound seven centimeters deep

The 29-year-old fell at the end of November at the giant slalom in Killington – on her way to her 100th victory in the World Cup – and sustained an injury to her abdominal area. The athlete assumes that she rammed her stick into her stomach muscle during the accident. “There was a three-inch deep stab wound,” she said.

The seven-time world champion and two-time Olympic champion recently started training again at home in the USA.
