Emboldened by his coincidences with the extremism he expressed donald trump in the first days of his second term, and with the guarantee given by the extraordinary powers approved in the Bases law together with the extension of the 2023 Budget, Javier Milei located the National Congress as a scene of symbolic dispute. That is why since Casa Rosada pre-announces projects that target “woke” culture (“progressive”, in Creole), when the main reform in debate is the electoral one.
“Woke” is a term used in the United States for the “awakening” of certain lawsuits, which were brought against the racial segregation and continued against inequalities by gender identity and sexual orientationuntil raising the flags of the environmental preservation. Milei won the elections after a campaign in which he never evaded his affront to this entire agenda and would now push bills to materialize his reactionary speech.
In 24 hours, the Executive announced two initiatives, parallel but in harmony. Firstly, a proposal that tightens the migration regimelimiting the delivery of residence certifications and promoting the tariffication of guarantees that in our country are – until now – universal: access to health and public education. The other project would repeal the Micaela Law (capitations on gender violence) and the non-binary ID, would eliminate the figure of “femicide” as a criminal aggravating factor and would reform all laws that aim at “positive discrimination”: trans and gender job quotas for public positions.
“If you allow it, in a few more months we will discuss the divorce law”a representative of Unión por la Patria ironically told Ámbito, who later analyzed: “It’s quite a smoke bomb not to mention the agreements that they need due to the lack of dollars and cannot find.” Their hypothesis would coincide with the attempts of this medium to validate the wording of the projects within Freedom Advances: none of its representatives nor the deputies of the relevant commissions know what the projects suggested by Pink House. Neither Migrations has information about the eventual reform. The Gender Undersecretary did not respond for its scrapping.
Guillermo Francos Deputies Dialoguists Casa Rosada
Before the extraordinary sessions, Guillermo Francos met with allied deputies.
There is a prohibited agenda, which could converge with the Government’s “anti-woke” projects as of March 1. They are a succession of opposition requests for repeals which, for the moment, only took place in the formality of presentations to the Congressional authorities, but are integrated into their priority lists. Federal Meeting and Union for the Homeland are the most active blocks and raised requests to eliminate the decree that reforms the Internal Security Law, extend the retirement moratorium or institutionalize the National Tourism Fund.
Electoral reform in extraordinary sessions
Where concrete steps were seen was in the negotiation regarding the extraordinary sessions, whose period officially began on January 20, but whose inaugural activity would be a call for commissions on Tuesday February 4. Two days later, the Government is excited about voting in the Chamber of Deputies two projects of his electoral reform, which could have immediate application in this year’s legislative elections: Clean Sheet and the elimination of STEP.
Hours before your trip to the United States, Javier Milei signed the official proposal of Clean Sheetwhich establishes that a citizen cannot be a candidate with a conviction in the second instance, even if this is not final in the Supreme Court. Furthermore, its scope was expanded to includee no convicted person can hold a public position in the Executive Branch. What was striking was that the suggestions of Alejandro Fargosithe specialist summoned by the Government itself to outline the wording, which requested that sexual crimes and homicides be included in the list of impossibilities. The PRO and the UCR adhere to the project, but the ruling party has not yet reached the majority.

The path that the Government is taking is different to eliminate STEP. As the weeks passed, and after the round of meetings of Guillermo Francos with his allieslibertarian management would enable the alternative of suspension if that guarantees you get closer to the approval of your project. The banner of fiscal austerity and the possibility of absorbing the center-right spectrum are two attractions for the ruling party, similar to those of Peronism: Cristina Kirchner is the president of the PJ and, if the primaries were suspended, his pen would have greater power. Even so, the former president called for provincial references to unify a position before taking a legislative position.
