The 44-year-old Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback, who is considered the tallest player in National Football League (NFL) history, announced his decision via Instagram. Brady has a 22-year career that includes six championships with the New England Patriots and one with the Bucs.
ESPN reported last Saturday, citing anonymous sources, that the decision had been made and Brady would end his career. Numerous colleagues, the NFL itself and even one of his companies then congratulated him on his outstanding career with seven Super Bowl victories. However, his agent Don Yee and Brady’s father Tom Senior immediately denied that a decision had already been made. On Monday, the superstar himself said in a podcast that he didn’t know if he would continue.
The family man was under contract for another season with the Buccaneers. He will no longer fulfill this. The “GOAT” (Greatest of all time), as he is casually called, leaves behind a career statistic that no one will break anytime soon: seven titles and Vince Lombardi trophies, as well as the records for the most yards through passes (84,520) and touchdowns (624), most regular-season wins (243) and wins in playoffs (35), and yards in a Super Bowl (505).
Brady shaped his sport like no other and thereby not only rose to become a multi-millionaire, but also one of the sports icons in the USA. In 2000 he was drafted in the sixth round as number 199, at the end of his famous career “TB12” was ten times in the Super Bowl final, five times Super Bowl and three times league MVP (most valuable player). Brady was one of the top teams in the league for 20 years with the New England Patriots, and in his first year after joining the Buccaneers he clinched the title again at the end of last season. For sporting reasons, a resignation would not have been necessary. Brady showed until the end of the season that the oldest player in the league still had it. In the regular season he had the best values for touchdowns, successful passes, pass attempts and yards thrown. In the playoff against the Los Angeles Rams, he almost made a comeback for the Buccaneers, for which he is feared and respected in the league. However, the 27:30 loss was the last appearance of the US football hero. That’s fixed now.
Now Brady is dedicated to his family with supermodel Gisele Bundchen and their two children Vivian and Benjamin. Brady also has a son from a previous relationship.
