Cycling accident in Mallorca: Athlete reports from a bedside bed
The German railway bike team is involved in a serious accident in Mallorca. A person concerned reports how he is going on.
The German cyclist Louis Gentzik spoke out from the bedside down after the serious accident with the national railway bike team in Mallorca. “Thanks for all the dear news and recovery requests! I can give the current situation for my part,” wrote the 18-year-old on Instagram. To do this, he posted a photo from a clinic on which he pointed his thumb upwards.
Gentzik added: “I have a hairline tear in my shoulder, a concussion and light hematomas in the lungs. I will spend 2 days in the hospital for observation and then hopefully fly home soon and start training again.”
He wished the rest of the team “get well soon” and continued to write: “Take the whole thing with you that next time you get eight and considerate with each other when you are on the road.”
A total of six German cyclists affected
On Monday, Gentzik and five teammates were hit by a car and were seriously injured. As the German Cycling Association informed German Cycling, the athletes were taken to the hospital for medical care, there is no danger to any athletes.
In addition to Gentzik, the former U23 European champion Tobias Buck-Gramcko, the two World Cup thirds Benjamin Boos and Bruno Kessler as well as Max-David Briese and Moritz Augenstein are affected. They are part of the endurance national team, which is located in preparation for the European railway bike from 12 to February 12th in Heusden-Zolder, Belgium on the Spanish island.
The accident occurred on Monday morning near the Palma de Mallorca Airport, not far from the team district. According to the association, a driver, who is said to be 89 years old, overlooked the group and drove head -on into them.
