Handball World Cup: Denmark after victory over DHB-Schreck Portugal in the final

Denmark’s handball players effortlessly throw themselves into the final of the World Cup and stand in front of the fourth World Cup title. The Olympic champion rolled over Germany-conquered Portugal with 40:27 (20:16) and has been unbeaten for 36 World Cup games. In the game for the gold medal, the apparently overpowering team of coach Nikolaj Jacobsen meets the Croatians on Sunday (6:00 p.m.), in which handball legend Domagoj Duvnjak plays his last game in the national jersey.

The best Dane was once again goalkeeper Emil Nielsen with 15 parades. World handball players Mathias Gidsel contributed nine goals to the final.

In the game for third place, the Portuguese will meet European champions France on Sunday (3 p.m.). In a dramatic quarter-finals, the southern Europeans had prevailed after extra time against the DHB selection and the German dreams have destroyed the first World Cup medal since 2007.

Croatia only stops at the beginning

For the first time in the course of the tournament, the Danes received resistance. The fast four-goal lead was destroyed by simple ball losses. After 20 minutes, the lead at 13:12 was much scarcer than expected. Because Nielsen thwarted several chances at the end of the first half, Denmark was able to break away again.

After the break, the approximately 8,500 spectators saw the expected one -sided game, in which Denmark dominated the outsider at will. Gidsel turned on, almost every attack led to a goal. In the goal, Nielsen was able to increase his already good performance again. The game was decided after 43 minutes and a 10-goal lead.
