Stan Polovets, creator of the “Jewish Nobel Award”: “Milei has been an unwavering ally of the state of Israel”

Stan Polovets, co-founder and director of the Foundationhe spoke with Scope and explained the foundations for which the president was awarded. “He has made concrete decisions, such as committing to transfer the Argentine embassy to Jerusalem and reverse the history of antiisraelis voting at the UN,” Polovets said.

Stan Polovets: The nomination of the Argentine President arose through the usual process of the foundation of the Genesis Award, which consists of the global Jewish community to propose candidates throughout the year prior to the announcement. Subsequently, the Genesis Prize Selection Committee evaluates nominations and makes a decision. In the case of President Milei, the committee’s decision was unanimous, being determining factors his unconditional support to the Jewish people and the State of Israel, as well as his achievements in his first year in office.

Q: Could you synthesize what this award and its relevance is about?

SP: The Genesis award, recognized as the “Jewish Nobel Prize”, was established more than a decade ago to honor people who have made extraordinary contributions in the social or philanthropic, work to strengthen ties between Israel and the international community, fight anti -Semitism and promote Jewish values such as freedom and Tikum Olam. The prize includes a million dollars, which the winners donate to philanthropic causes of their choice. Over the years, the Genesis award has been awarded to influential leaders in various fields, including law, public service, human rights, medicine, arts and philanthropy. This is the first time that a acting chief of state is recognized.

Q: In the case of Milei, do you know what destiny will give to the funds?

SP: President Milei has already announced that he will donate the funds to organizations that promote freedom and autonomy, both in Argentina and in the rest of the world. We will work with the president and his team to identify possible beneficiaries who can help materialize his libertarian vision of a limited government, focused on the protection of life, freedom and property, in line with the principles of free market. We will also talk to other philanthropists that may be willing to contribute to expand the available fund.

Q: How is the jury composed?

SP: The jury is composed of nine judges: four from Israel, one from South America, two from Europe and two from the United States. Each of the judges has stood out professionally in areas such as businesses, law, academia, media, philanthropy and public service. All members share the commitment to promote the legacy and values of the Jewish people worldwide. The Genesis award not only recognizes the achievements of Jewish and non -Jewish individuals in their respective fields, their philanthropic contributions and their support for the State of Israel, but also seeks to promote universal values such as tolerance, democracy, social justice and rights humans

Q: What were the main arguments of those who chose Javier Milei?

SP: The prize selection committee highlighted several key factors when choosing President Milei. First, his firm support for Israel. In a complex international context, Milei has been an unwavering ally of the Jewish state, supporting it publicly and making concrete decisions, such as committing to transfer the Argentine embassy to Jerusalem and reverse the history of antiisraelis voting at the UN. Second, his commitment to justice for Jewish victims of terrorism: he has promoted initiatives to bring to justice those responsible for the attacks against AMIA and the Embassy of Israel in Argentina, as well as to declassify documents related to death of prosecutor Alberto Nisman. Finally, their economic achievements, which have contributed to reducing inflation in Argentina, also highlighted a fiscal surplus for the first time in more than 15 years and stop the fall of the Argentine weight.

Q: Who were the other nominees?

SP: Every year, multiple prominent candidates are nominated for the Genesis award. Often, a person is nominated for several years before being selected. Since most candidates prefer that they were not public that they were nominated, but not selected, we keep the list in confidentiality. However, I can share that among the nominees of this year there was another head of state, a prominent public intellectual, an activist for women’s rights, a recognized journalist and a pioneer in artificial intelligence.

Q: Do you observe a new focus of Argentine foreign policy in relation to Israel?

SP: Definitely. The administration of President Milei has marked a significant change in the relationship between Argentina and Israel, promoting unprecedented levels of diplomatic cooperation. Milei’s decision to transfer the Argentine Embassy of Tel Aviv to Jerusalem and its clear position at the UN have demonstrated their commitment to strengthening ties between the two countries. This will undoubtedly lead to investments and various forms of business and technological cooperation between Israel and Argentina, including the military.

Q: The conflict in Gaza modified positions from different countries in relation to Israel, you were critical, could you expand?

SP: It is unfortunate that so many democratic countries have turned their backs on Israel since October 7, 2023. The demonstrations against Israel have become anti -Semitic. No other country in the world would ignore the relentless, barbaric and cruel terrorism to which Israel has been subjected, and no other would doubt to defend and protect its citizens, as Israel has had to deal with jurisdiction enemies of its destruction, including Iran, Hamas , Hezbollah and the Hutis. Fortunately, President Milei has been firm in his support for Israel’s right to defend himself, in his sentence to Hamas as a terrorist organization and in his support for Israel at the UN. This contrasts strongly with countries such as Brazil, Chile, Colombia and Bolivia, which have degraded their diplomatic relations with Israel since October 7. Venezuela, of course, has been a fierce critic of Israel for years.

Q: Recently the magnate Elon Musk made gestures that were questioned for their connotations referred to Nazism, what do you think?

SP: Many people considered that the gestures were offensive, while the Anti -Diffamation League (ADL) described them as a “clumsy gesture” and the Deborah Lipstadt ambassador (special envoy from the Biden administration to combat global anti -Semitism) said there are more important problems of those to worry. Musk has flatly denied that it was a Nazi greeting. Of course, it would be better if we did not have reasons to discuss these issues and, instead, we could focus on strengthening the support of Israel and condemning the rise of anti -Semitism and terrorism in the world, as President Milei is doing.

Q: Are you worried about the global advance of xenophobic movements linked to ultra -right?

SP: I am worried about the increase in xenophobia and anti -Semitism both in the extreme right and in the extreme left. The fact that so many people from different political and socioeconomic spectra feel empowered to blame Jews, immigrants and “others” for the problems of the world disturbingly remembers previous periods of anti -Semitism and hate. We all know what that leads.
