Except for Daniel Tschofenig, everyone from the red-white-red quintet ended up in the top six at least once in three attempts on the normal hill in Zhangjiakou. Stefan Kraft was fourth twice, Daniel Huber second and sixth. Manuel Fettner won the first heat, Jan Hörl was sixth in the third. Tschofenig’s best rank: 19.

Besides Fettner, the Norwegian Halvor Egner Granerud and the Russian Jewgenij Klimov were number one each. As announced, the Norwegians Daniel Andre Tande and Johan Forfang were not at the start due to corona. The second training session is scheduled for Friday (7:00 a.m. CET). After that, ÖSV head coach Andreas Widholzl will decide which four active members of his team will qualify on Saturday (7:20 a.m.) for the competition scheduled for Sunday (12:00 p.m.).

Huber was happy to have quickly found his rhythm on the “Snow Ruyi” hill. “It was a lot of fun right away.” But: “The competition doesn’t sleep. Just keep at it and think ahead from step to step.” Kraft was also satisfied after getting to know each other, but knows about his jump: “It’s not one hundred percent stable.” It might be easier for him on the small hill because it’s slower, according to Kraft. “It went well three times and that motivates.”
