Istanbul-based Turkish first division club Besiktas have officially announced the signing of Gedson Fernandes from Benfica. However, the 23-year-old midfielder will only join the club in the summer, spending the second half of the season at Rizespor. The four-year contract with Besiktas begins in July.
The transfer fee for the Portuguese is €6m, making him the fifth most expensive Besiktas signing of all time. Only Rodrigo Tabata, Ricardo Quaresma, Adem Ljajic and Ayhan Akman cost the Istanbul team more.
Gedson Fernandes played for Galatasaray in 2020/21
Fernandes already knows his way around in the Süper Lig, because in the second half of the 2020/21 season he wore the shirt of Besiktas’ great rivals Galatasaray. According to Turkish media reports, Gala was now very interested in a transfer, but was left behind.
