Dürr in World Cup giant slalom in top ten – gold to Brignone
At the World Cup giant slalom in Saalbach, an Italian and a New Zealander show a big show. Even a German surprises positive – even if it is not enough for precious metal.
Skir racer Lena Dürr surprisingly made it into the top ten at the World Cup giant slalom of Saalbach-Hinterglemm. The 33-year-old took nine in the famous gold triumph by the Italian Federica Brignone and got confidence for the slalom on Saturday. In the Dürr is one of the favorites. So far, the German ski team has not yet won a medal in the title fights in Austria.
Brignone, which had already won silver and bronze at the Olympics in the giant slalom, triumphed in front of Alice Robinson from New Zealand, which was also impressive, and the American Paula Moltzan. The 34 -year -old Brignone was at the end of nine tenths of a second ahead of Robinson and more than two and a half seconds on Moltzan.
Dürr’s teammate Emma Aicher came to 23rd. Defending champion Mikaela Shiffrin from the United States had dispensed with a start because of the consequences of her abdominal injury and the training deficit. “It was incredibly fun,” said Dürr on ZDF. “The day was very successful for me.”
Consistent mistakes in the team combination
She enjoyed “just skiing and not being asked,” said Dürr, who was even seventh after the first round. “If you have such a run, you want to confirm it, of course. The anticipation for Saturday is even greater.” Then there is the slalom where the strengths of the Munich native lie.
She had gone into the giant slalom for no great expectations – but according to her mistake in the team combination, it was not completely free of pressure. In the mini team competition, on Tuesday, she had made a rough mistake shortly before the finish, which brought her and teammate Aicher for grasping the first German medal at this World Cup.
